Managers Caught in the Crunch

Prior to 1982, the position of most middle managers was very secure and nearly sacrosanct. Since then, however, thousands of managers have been dismissed. In fact, middle management seems targeted for termination and is, as a group, becoming more vulnerable. Most of these middle managers are people in their forties or fifties who have taken job security for granted.
