The Legacy Leader
IN THIS SUMMARY
Because of recent events in our society, especially in the world of business, many no longer expect leaders, in any arena, to be people of integrity, but accept flawed character as business as usual and of no real consequence to a leader's economic effectiveness. However, López believes that the purpose of leadership is to create something of lasting value and worth beyond the bottom line and that, more than anything, character, integrity, and ethics define this kind of legacy.
The Legacy Leader addresses the purpose of leadership as well as its mechanics, examining such roles as mentor, motivator, communicator, change agent, and organizational designer. López draws a direct correlation between character, integrity, and the leader's effectiveness in these roles, and illustrates this correlation with the lessons he learned in the military and at Johnson & Johnson. With this correlation, he offers both senior leaders and young potential leaders a vision of how they can, with their day to-day organizational decisions, create a lasting legacy of which they can be proud.
