I may have touched on this in another thread, but I guess this is where this discussion really belongs.
Shel's penned a terrific book in my opinion, and not only because she focuses on President Obama, who is of course just one of the hottest topics right now. You have to admire how she's managed to distill Obama's skill at inspiring people and getting his message across to anyone and everyone, regardless of their demographics, into a little book that you can finish in a couple of hours. Not only that, but she comes up with fantastic concrete recommendations, tips and suggestions for improving how you speak and come across to people. It's just brilliant, and, more to the point, really useful.
Anybody else given this book a try?

Barack Obama has brought the power of oration back to American politics. Using well-practiced public-speaking skills, he not only rouses roaring applause but inspires real change in his listeners.
In speech after speech, Barack Obama has “fired up” millions of enthusiastic supporters with his inspiring vision, rousing rhetoric, and charismatic presence. His outstanding communication skills gave rise to an unprecedented political movement and fueled Obama’s success in becoming America’s first African American president.
But inspiring and persuading millions isn’t simply a product of innate ability—Barack Obama honed techniques that made him a highly effective speaker before audiences numbering thirty to 200,000. The techniques described in the book are vital not only in the political arena, but also for business executives, managers, and leaders from all walks of life.

I do agree the Obama has brought great oratory back to the oval office, I am worried however that some of what he is sharing will lead us down the wrong road.

I've given this book a try. Read it once and reading some of its parts again as reference. You're right to when you said it was really useful. That's why when I read it I still read some of parts of the book. A must read for everyone I must say.

Hi Alvin, glad to see you liked the book too! It's really useful for people who want to learn how to improve their oratorical skills - or who want to develop them if they don't feel they're up to public speaking at all Oh, and Shel is a pretty nice person as well. I've been corresponding with her regarding her book and she's been great.
